Trees - Our Specialty

Evergreen, Flowering, Fruit, Shade and Ornamental - Our inventory includes over 100 species and varieties of trees - from Abizia to Redwood to Zelkova.

Grown in containers, so all trees and shrubs are ready for planting all year long. Most trees are grown in # 15 size containers, some in 24 inch tubs. Occasionally, young trees are available in # 5 size containers.

Fruit Trees - We grow semi-dwarf fruit trees, all suitable for this climate zone ~ Apples, Figs, Nectarines, Peaches, Pears, Persimmons and Plums. Fruit trees are grown in # 7 and # 15 size containers, not bare-root, so they are available all year. Our trees are well-rooted, large caliper trees ~ many already bearing fruit in the container! So you may easily browse through the varieties and select your favorite, fruit trees are displayed in a specific section.

Citrus - We carry standard size citrus trees in # 5 and # 15 size containers. If you prefer a dwarf variety or if we do not have the variety you are looking for in stock, we can add it to our next citrus order.

Patio Trees - Patio Trees, small trees or large shrubs, pruned to a single trunk. Patio Trees are the perfect size to accommodate a small spot in your garden. Even limited spaces, such as balconies, front entries, patios and decks can become colorful gardens using Patio Trees. To help you visualize them on your deck, you will find many varieties planted in identifiable containers.

Shrubs

Basic landscape favorites, as well as unusual varieties of evergreen and flowering ornamental shrubs comprise the shrub inventory at Penngrove Nursery. Additionally, we have shrubs for special uses, such as:

  • Ground Cover Shrubs - low growing, spreading, evergreen shrubs to cover slopes and banks or to plant as a lawn replacement.
  • Hedges and Screens - Shrubs for screening an unsightly view, providing a background, defining a specific area, or blocking a neighbor’s window.
  • Deer Resistant Shrubs
  • Drought Tolerant Shrubs

Ornamental Grasses

Ornamental grasses are valued as low maintenance additions to a garden. Many varieties are drought tolerant and require little water making ornamental grasses popular as lawn substitutes and very practical in decorative containers.

Our large, distinct display provides effortless viewing and selection among the many species, varieties, colors and textures of ornamental grasses. Grown in 4 inch, # 1, # 2, and # 5 size containers.

Proven Winners

Perennials, Ornamental Herbs, Iris and Bulbs

We grow numerous varieties of perennials and ornamental herbs, so many are in our retail section year round. Sizes vary throughout the season as a particular batch becomes ready for transplant into 4 inch, # 1, and # 2 size containers. To supplement our selections, we bring in additional varieties from local growers throughout the season.

If you do not see the size or species you are looking for in our retail area, just ask. We may have it in our growing section.

When plants are not in bloom or are dormant, we often move them from the display shelves to the growing area, in back. If we do not have what you are looking for, we will gladly try to locate from other growers for you.

Edibles - Availability Varies by Season

Vegetables & Herbs

Herbs and vegetables are in stock year round with availability changing with the seasons. Sold in a variety of sizes from jumbo packs to one & two gallon.

Roses

As we could not possibly carry every rose, our rose selection focuses on:

  • disease resistant varieties, requiring less fuss and less chemicals,
  • climbing roses to use against a fence or to cover a trellis,
  • ground cover roses, sometimes called 'carpet roses', are low growing, long blooming, and best of all, require no dead-heading. Ground cover roses need little maintenance ~ Consider for a colorful lawn replacement!

Vines & Climbers

Wisteria - We grow large, grafted wisteria vines in # 15 size containers. Grafted wisteria bloom more reliably than seedling vines and also bloom earlier, when the plant is younger. Seedling wisteria can take several years to flower, while our grafted wisteria often blooms in the container!

Vines - We can assist you select the most appropriate of the many species of vines for arbors, fences, and privacy screens.
